New Poem “Starlings at Sunset” in Skipjack Review

I’m honored to be included in the inspirational poems in the new issue of Skipjack Review!

My new poem, “Starlings at Sunset”, offers a vision of hope in our current environment of lingering pandemic and despair.

Video of Unsolicited Press Reading with Taylor Garcia and Rosalia Scalia 9/18/24

I greatly enjoyed my live stream reading and conversation with Taylor Garcia, which was hosted by Rosalia Scalia and sponsored by Unsolicited Press. Taylor is engaging and fun.

I read a selection of poems from my upcoming collection, Why Trees Stay Outside, and we chatted about writing, inspiration, and encouraging young authors.

My New Poetry Book Drops on 10/1/24!

My new poetry collection, Why Trees Stay Outside, will be published 10/1/24 by Unsolicited Press. Unlike my previous poetry book and novels, which have words extending back thirty years or more, these poems were written in the last 5-6 years with echoes of our contemporary social, political, and natural environment along with flashes of romance and humor. There’s more information HERE

The title poem was inspired by a question our son John asked me when he was a preschooler. You can check out the poem in the literary journal Rust + Moss, where it first appeared.

You can preorder the collection from the publisher and from most book retailers, including your local bookstore, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or bookshop.org. Posting a review on Amazon or Goodreads will bring my undying gratitude.

Here are a few celebratory events for those of you in the SF Bay area, and I would be thrilled to see you there. There are more appearances listed on my Events page, and I also plan to schedule some zoom events.

Processing Our Pandemic Grief: AWP 2024 Practice Session Hosted By Sista Creatives

Thank you to Amaranthia Sepia for editing this practice video of our AWP 2024 panel “Processing Our Pandemic Grief” with Amaranthia, her mom Claire Jones, Jan Steckel (moderator), and Suchandrima Bannerjee. Special thanks to Cristina Deptula for bringing us together. The video closely maps the final panel presented at AWP.

I had the pleasure of reading three new poems inspired by our lingering social and cultural landscape.

New Poem “Rumor of Love” in The Blood Pudding

Honored to see my poem “Rumor of Love” up on The Blood Pudding magazine website.

I especially love the the artwork the editors selected to accompany the poem: “Two Hearts” by Amy Beager.

Also be sure to check out the other fine authors.
